One of the objectives of the Maisons du Monde Finance Department is to support the Group's development. This involves securing its profitable growth strategy through reliable reporting and planning processes. "For Maisons du Monde, the planning challenges are primarily aimed at having the ability to adapt and anticipate. It's about gaining agility and visibility without creating more complexity," explains Arnaud Louet, Administrative and Financial Director of Maisons du Monde. The planning issue is characterised in particular by the numerous analyses to be produced around the two main distribution axes. On the one hand, a physical distribution activity through points of sale. On the other hand, a continuously growing e-Commerce activity which already represents 20% of the business. "It was important for us to have a good understanding of these two distribution channels with, at the centre, a single customer who has resolutely become omnichannel", says Arnaud Louet.
With a business spread over the furniture and decoration categories, the company carries a large number of references that intersect and are analysed on many dimensions. Through this project, one of Maisons du Monde's objectives was to use a single reference system and to equip itself to carry out all the analyses required to manage the business and thus gain in clarity and legibility.
To carry out this project, the Maisons du Monde Finance Department chose to be supported by Keyrus Management, which was involved throughout the project in these two key phases.
The expression of need made it possible to clarify the fundamentals of the reporting and planning processes and to define the key indicators and analysis axes required to manage the business. Until then, it was difficult for the Finance Department to communicate with the business experts due to the lack of precise reporting and clearly shared indicators.
Maisons du Monde chose the Anaplan solution, which appeared to be both easy to implement and adapted to the retail sector, allowing for greater agility and faster implementation.
"Through its knowledge of the Retail sector and its analytical skills, Keyrus Management was able to help us clarify and structure our needs and, given their mastery of market tools, to guide us in the crucial choice of our solution," says Arnaud Louet.
The implementation phase took place with a strong contribution from the Maisons du Monde Group management control team. Thanks to its flexible implementation and easy access to functional profiles, Anaplan allows for an Agile approach that puts the business user at the heart of the project.
The approach proposed by Keyrus Management makes it possible to achieve concrete results very quickly and to give the business more autonomy.
"Throughout the implementation process, we realised the magic of Anaplan as we were able to combine the ownership, training and implementation phases in parallel. The implementation was particularly quick, as in a few months we were able to put in place all the phases of actual monthly reporting, reforecasting and budgeting," says Arnaud Louet.
The overhaul of the reporting process and the implementation of Anaplan were crucial to the organisation of Maisons du Monde.
The Finance Department is now in a position to conduct monthly performance reviews by business line, with detailed analysis of the 300 shops and 11 countries that make up the Maisons du Monde market.
The environment set up allows for the analysis of the profitability of the e-Commerce activities and the shops, but also for steering the performance of the development.
"As CFO, I am now able to support the various operational and support functions. We are able to regularly and accurately share all KPIs and have a real business dialogue with the various departments," says Arnaud Louet. "Keyrus Management provided us with methods and processes as well as essential expertise in defining our analysis criteria and choosing our solution. Their experts enabled us to schedule the project in such a way as to maintain a good pace of completion, optimising each stage of the deployment," concludes Arnaud Louet.
"We are particularly pleased to have supported the Maisons du Monde Finance Department throughout this project. First of all, because it's always exciting to help provide the Finance Department of a fast-growing Group with the processes and tools it needs to support growth and play a role in strategic decisions. But also, because this project is fully in line with our approach of supporting our clients as closely as possible to their challenges by combining our business and technological know-how," adds Valérie Frankiel, Deputy Managing Director & Partner of Keyrus Management.
The field of possibilities with Anaplan remains wide and promising for Maisons du Monde. With the reporting phases completed, Maisons du Monde now plans to use the solution to gain a deeper understanding of the payroll of shops and support functions, improve planning of logistical needs and perform an in-depth analysis of the various margin levels of the product collection.
